Swimming
The pool at Luminoso is the perfect place to swim and relax. With outstanding views of the surrounding countryside you can while away the afternoon with a book, as you hop in and out of the pool.
For nature lovers, a dip in the lake is only a few minutes’ walk away!
However, if you want to travel to the sea, the west coast is just about an hour’s drive and with a variety of coves and platinum sanded beaches there are plenty of different places to visit, where you can swim, walk and enjoy sun, sand and sea.
Walking
Hundreds of acres of beautiful countryside are waiting to be discovered, providing hours of pleasure as you venture around the shores of the lake or take a picnic to the table under a big tree by the shore of the lake.
Explore the lake with the rowing boat..
Sightseeing
Luminoso is surrounded by delightful villages which transport you into a bygone era as you order a coffee and pastéis de nata in one of the many cafés.
You can venture around Castro Verde, Aljustrel and other nearby towns to see some old copper mines or archaeological sites.
Alternatively, you can travel further afield to explore the roman city of Beja, or the World Heritage city of Evora.
Marble and granite are naturally occurring products in Portugal and the areas of Estramoz and Vila Viçosa will open your eyes to marble as you have never encountered it before.
Either the west coast or the Algarvian coast are just a bare hour’s drive away and the journey itself to the sea can be made into a beautiful trip exploring countryside and places as you go.

Photography
For the amateur or professional alike, the light in this part of Portugal makes the taking of photographs a real pleasure. With the vast array of flora and fauna within focal length you will hardly be able to stop yourself. There are also very good photographers in the area which offer their services such as giving courses or selling their excellent photographs!
Bird Watching
As part of a nature reserve there is a multitude of native and migratory birds around our home and the Barragem Monte da Rocha. Many happy hours can be spent with binoculars in hand walking the shores of the lake and enjoying the inhabitants thereof. There are also resident experts who can be called upon for advice and specialist knowledge. A list with the birds that have been spotted in the area is available.
Art and Crafts
Many great artists have chosen to live in the area. For more information and arrangements to visit ateliers, please contact us!
Markets
There are weekly or monthly markets in almost all the adjoining towns: Charlotte and Heinz will be happy to give more details, as well as on:

Boating
